This was the second of Barnum's museums in New York. The first, located at Broadway and Ann streets, burned in 1865. He swiftly reestablished the museum further up Broadway, but it too, burnt down in 1868. Instead of rebuilding, Barnum took his show on the road. Fortunately, the Jolly Corks were able to view an Elk on display in 1867!
