"MAKE HASTE!"

Written by David P. Nolte

From Dave's Den:

I just took me just 1.5 minutes to "nuke" a cup of coffee. For those who don't know what "nuking" is, it means to pop something into a microwave for a quick heat up.

Isn't it great to have such modern appliances which work so rapidly? It used to be that when we wanted to heat coffee we had to put it into a kettle and onto the stove and then wait until it boiled. When I was a little boy and we wanted to make toast we had to put it into a toaster which browned one side of the bread at a time; then when smoke rolled out of the toaster, you knew it was time to turn the bread over for a whack at the other side.

Well, the old items did the job but maybe not as fast as the ones we use today. We like speed. Waiting is a chore. Tedium is boring.

When it comes to computers, my first one would do a particular job in about 10 minutes; the next one would do the same job in 43 seconds; this one will do the same job in about 3 seconds. Speed.

When it comes to life, we should grow as fast as we can in Christ. We can accelerate our growth or stunt it. We accelerate it by exercise of our faith, by a good diet of Bible and prayer, by exposing ourself to the benefits of Christian fellowship, and by drawing near to God in regular worship experiences. We stunt growth by minimizing those things and consuming things of the world.

We ought to make haste to follow where Christ leads. The disciples immediately left their nets to follow. When you are sure of the direction He wants you to go, no foot dragging will do! We should be quick to obey His commands. When He speaks, let us comply without delay!

Don't grow discouraged if things are not happening fast enough in your spiritual life. The really important thing is getting the job done regardless of how long it takes. If you fail, try again. If you fall, get back up. If you slip back, take another step forward.

Yours for quickly doing as He says,

Dave
