Braggen
Where ever you find cowboys young or old
Many a story, you’ll hear told
On the long trail drives, from a time long past
To the modern day bunk house, you don’t have to ask
Stories about this old saddle, or hat and the horse that bucked higher,
than a kite in flight
But when a cowboy heads to town on a Saturday night
The stories then, can turn into a fright
I have done this and I have done that, says the cowboy turning a little
old
I can do this and I can do that, Says the young cowboy, now so bold
It was Saturday night at the Hogan bar
When I made that fateful brag
There wasn’t a thing, that I wouldn’t ride
If you could hang my riggen on it’s hide
Jose Cuervo and I had been good friends this night
At the moment, I didn’t know the word, fright
Tom kind of smiled, then said, I’ll go get Ol Blue
And bring him round to the parking lot out back
You go on now and get your riggen sack
Well they put my bareback riggen on Ol Blue’s back, and cinched it
down tight
Ol Blue just stood there, couldn’t been a more docile sight
I climbed on top, screwed my hat down, took my seat just right
Sat up straight and yelled lets ride
Then it felt like a surging tide
Ol Blue lunged out with a terrible squall
A dodge to the left a dip to the right
I’ll tell you, I was sticken there tight
A roll to one side and kind of, quiver there
Then come down on all four, so hard and square
Then Ol Blue broke out in a straight away run
I knew that our ride was just about done
Then I saw a terrible sight
A row of yella speed bumps, directly in the path of our flight
As I pulled myself down, ever so much more tight
Ol Blue became permanent swayback, right there that night
His front had hardly passed the first two bumps when he cut hard to
the right
My right arm stretched, I knew, I was going to be left sitting alone
in the night
But I snapped back down with a groaning sound
Now! it was time to put my feet on the ground
I kicked my left leg over, off to the right
And easily stepped clear, into the night
From that time tell now, after Ol Blue’s ride
I’ve been on many a rough old hide
But I’ve never had such a fright
As on that night, when mounted on top of a Volkswagen Bug
Those speed bumps came into sight
