Walleyed and shaken from his tail to his nose
He wasn’t about to let me get close
I just sat on the ground in the middle of his pen
Talked and whistled, sang a little song for him
He stopped shaken and looked my way
Like maybe he to had something to say
I slowly got up and dabbed on my rope
Then quickly took wraps on the snubben post
The fight was short, he gave up real quick
I thought this is going real slick
I worked down the rope put the bosal on
I continued talken and singing his song
He looked at me as if to say
Ok what else you doing to me today?
So I cheeked him around and swung right on
I had no doubt, I’d soon be back on the ground
Well he just sort of walked right off
Of this I ‘m glad, that grounds not to soft
One thing I forgot on this first day
Was to teach him to lead, for this I would pay
We had a lot of wet saddle blankets from that time on
Snip never left me stranded on the ground
He would have taken me to hell if asked to go
Then made sure he brought me back again, this I know
But not one step would he lead, from that first day on
With a lead rope, he stood like his feet were buried in the ground
Take the rope off, say Snip lets be on our way
You couldn’t lose him, he was behind you to stay
One lesson I learned from this Snip horse of mine
Teach them to lead before you ride, or to yourself you're being most
unkind
I wish, there was some way I could bring my Snip horse forward in time
This I would do, he was a special friend of mine
