Dear Sangha friends,
Well, we are enjoying an illusory spring here at Tashi Choling. The world has transformed into a warm green. Everything is in motion, projects in process all over. Come on out! I'd like to mention that I recently spoke with Rinpoche via phone, and he asked me to relate what he said to you all, "tell the others". Forgive my paraphrasing here: Rinpoche spoke extensively about the crucial nature of our commitment to work for the benefit of others. He reminded that we are supporting Buddhism and the Three Jewels and we need to be very careful not to mix worldly concerns with our offering. He continued, saying that this isn't about our egos, it's about the Dharma. I got the impression that he was referring especially to the importance of the fund raising effort and The Shedra program. He elaborated on being sure that our motivation is pure, that we work diligently but not to push too hard, and that all that we say and do reflects the Dharma - in other words, that we are the representatives of "the Shakyamuni", as Rinpoche puts it. He pointed that we must make great effort not to gossip, lie, or have negative speech, and not to have a negative view. I felt he was saying that with this kind of diligent focus, everything will turn out really well. But it will be a slow process, so don't be too anxious for everything to be in place right away. You know, "slowly, slowly." He spent a chunk of time talking about the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha, and that these are our refuges, not ego. It was a very moving talk. And then he wanted to know if it was snowing here. Nope. He sounded great and that talk transformed my day.
REMINDER: always carry traction devices when coming to Tashi Choling - is this winter?
