The East Wing

The East Wing is a long awaited project that is crucial to the development of the facilities at Tashi Choling. It will house offices, a library and an audio and video archive complete with editing and production facilities. This added space will provide a setting for students to gather for the study of arts, language and sciences and will preserve the temple for contemplative practices.

In planning this sturcture, Rinpoche has concentrated on the needs of students while also maintaining a low cost.

Total Estimated cost: $140,000

These figures cover the cost of materials and contracted services. All other work will be done by student volunteers. Tashi Choling has a tradition of volunteer work reaching back to its beginnings; working together is an important part of our life as Buddhists. We will begin construction this summer. If you would like to join us, please call Tashi Choling at (541) 482-2399.

Offerings of any size are greatly appreciated. If you would like to make a contribution, please send it to: Yeshe Nyingpo/Tashi Choling, attn: East Wing, PO Box 124, Ashland, OR 97520 .

Roads, Paths and Gardens

Due to the rugged terrain and weather conditions, the roads at Tashi Choling require on-going maintenance. In the winter months, the roads can be impassable, even with a 4-wheel drive vehicle. For safety, accessibility and more efficient maintenance, road improvement is a major concern.

The cost to rock and grade existing roadway: $20,000

To enhance the beauty of the Temple lawn and Statue Garden, we have a landscape plan designed for the planting of fruit trees, plants and colorful flowers, and the addition of an irrigation system. A re-forestation and wildlife habitat program has already been approved for government funding and it is our hope to begin the revitalization of the valley, which has been seriously damaged by previous clearcutting practices.

Offerings of any size are greatly appreciated. If you would like to make a contribution, please send it to: Yeshe Nyingpo/Tashi Choling, PO Box 64, Ashland, Or 97520. Attn: Road Improvement

The Stupa Project

The construction of the Eight Great Stupas that commemorate the most important events in the life of the Buddha is in progress. A stupa is a sealed shrine containing precious relics constructed in a geometric configuration that symbolizes all aspects of the Enlightened State: the Enlightened Body, Speech and Mind of the Buddha; the harmonious mandala of the five elements; the stages on the path to liberation.

The stupas will stand three feet high and be completely encased in handworked silver. The work will be done by an accomplished Tibetan artisan who will teach students the traditional methods as he works.

The material cost is $2000 per stupa.

Offerings of any size are greatly appreciated. You may also donate gold or silver objects -- coins, silverware and jewelery -- which can be reworked for the stupas.
