Here we see an animation that shows the relation between these two quantities:

The object always starts at the same position, 0.0 m. It moves away from that starting position with a changing velocity. Each of the object's velocities is changing, (except the velocity that is constantly 0.0 m/s). The constant acceleration is changing through values spanning from +1.5 m/s2 to -1.5 m/s2.

This Java applet demonstration is set up for xo = 0.0 m, vo = 0.0 m/s, and a = 1.5 m/s2. You can change the acceleration to other values and see situations similar to those shown in this animation.
